Remote access to electronic materials

License agreements limit the use of electronic materials to computers connected to the Aalto University network. However, the Aalto University students and staff can use the materials outside the School's network with their Aalto log-in. Other customers can only use the licensed materials in the library on the customer service workstations.

Outside the network access is gained by logging in to the Nelli portal. The remote use is enabled with the Libproxy-service, which works together with the Nelli-portal. It does not require any special settings or installations on the workstation in use. The Aalto log-in is used to verify the person's identity and his/her right to remote access.

Most licensed browser-used e-materials acquired by the library, such as electronic journals and books, databases and dictionaries can be used remotely. However, materials which require the installing of a program on the workstation can not be used. Libproxy does not give access to the School's Windows network.

Nelli also includes links to freely available scientific open access journals and other such materials.
