Interlibrary lending consists of borrowing and copying between libraries and providers of information services; the Aalto University Otaniemi Campus Library has excellent contacts to libraries and other suppliers of information services all over the world, and is able to order material from both Finnish and international libraries.
An interlibrary loan request can be placed by filling in an order form (online or in print format) or by e-mail, fax or telephone. Libraries can send their interlibrary loan requests via the Alli collection database. See the price list.
In the interlibrary loan service the request is checked and completed and the material is ordered from the fastest and most economical supplier.
Aalto University staff and students can also request free of charge items or copies from the National Repository Library without staff assistance.
Please make only one loan or copy request per form. Carefully fill in the form; include both the delivery and billing addresses and full details of requested item.
E-mail requests can be made to: kaukopalvelu [at] aalto [dot] fi. The request should include the delivery and billing addresses of the library user and full details of the requested item, see the www order form. Please also state the possible need for express service, the deadline for delivery and whether the material may be ordered from abroad.
Students pick up the ordered materials at the circulation service desk in the Main Library (Otaniemi Campus Library), and pay the possible charges on pick up. Students cannot request interlibrary loans from other libraries within the Helsinki metropolitan area.
Non-student users should also pick up the interlibrary loans at the Main Library. However, they may have print copies of journal articles delivered to their home address. In addition, Aalto University staff can order copies to their work address through the internal mail service (using the PO Box number).
Loans are sent by mail only to libraries, companies and other organisations.
Scanned journal articles in pdf format can only be sent to other libraries.
