Borrowing from the library

The services of the Aalto University Otaniemi Campus Library are open to all information seekers. However, receiving a library card and the right to borrow requires an official identity card and a postal address in Finland.

You will be granted the right to borrow from the library and issued a library card, once your identity has been verified and your contact information has been entered into the library database.

When the right to borrow has been granted, you are entitled to borrow material from the library. You can check out material either at the customer service point or by using the self-service machine.

To receive a library card, you need to fill out an application form, in electronic format or in print, and return it to the library. Please note that the details of new Aalto University School of Science and Technology students are automatically added to the library database.

The School of Science and Technology student cards also serve as library cards. New students without a student card will receive a temporary library card, which they should return to the library once they have received the student card.

Also the library cards of other Finnish universities can be used in the library provided they have been activated for this purpose.

You should notify the library of all changes in your contact details which can be done by filling out the Changes in personal details form or contacting the circulation services at the Main Library (Otaniemi Campus Library).

As users are granted borrowing rights, they agree to comply with the rules and borrowing policy of the library.

User responsibilities

Users are responsible for their library cards and for any materials borrowed with them. A charge of €5 is collected for a lost library card. If you lose your library card, contact the library immediately, so that the card may be inactivated; otherwise you will be held responsible for any material borrowed with the card, even by someone else.

Users have the responsibility to return or renew all loans on time, and will be held liable for any lost or damaged materials.
