Google Scholar at the Aalto University - from sfx@Aalto link to an electronic full text

Google Scholar, http://scholar.google.com/, is Google's search engine specialised in searching for scholarly information. There's a beta version of Google Scholar in use and the search results are not necessarily comprehensive. It is however quite an effective tool for information retrieval.

From Google Scholar search results there are direct links to electronic full text articles providing that they are accessible at the Aalto University. These links can be automatically seen in the Aalto University network area (point A in the picture). If there's a link 'sfx@Aalto' the electronic full text is not accessible at the Aalto University but it's possible to order it via library's interlibrary loan service or to check in TEEMU its available in the library's printed collection (point B in the picture).

If you want sfx@Aalto links visible in your search results also on a computer which is not connected to the Aalto University network do this:

  • choose 'Scholar Preferences'
  • write "Aalto University" to 'Library Links' and click 'Find Library'
  • mark 'Aalto University' in the list
  • save preferences

Please note that you have to be connected to the Aalto University network to be able to access to electronic resources licensed to the university, see Remote access to electronic materials. More information on searching for information using Google Scholar can be find at Google Scholar's Scholar Help and Advanced Search Tips.

If you are doing a wide and advanced search we recommend you use the Nelli portal to find out what information sources are available in your field. The Library's information specialist on duty helps you in this when needed.
