Architecture

The Main Library building designed by the architect Alvar Aalto was built at the turn of 1969–1970 in Otaniemi, Espoo. Activity of the library begun in January 1970. The library has a central location as part of the Otaniemi campus alongside the Alvari square.

The library has a surface area of 9,000 square meters. Service premises of the second floor and collection premises of the first and ground floors are for customers to use. Closed stacks where the oldest materials are stored are located at the lowest floor.
