Introduction

The Aalto University Otaniemi Campus Library is a scientific library open for everyone to use. The library responds to the need for library and information services of the techno-scientific fields of economical life and the society in general.

The Otaniemi Campus Library offers large, accessible, and easy to use collections that consist of printed and electronic materials for studying, education, and research. The library produces databases and maintains data systems, provides various education on information retrieval and usage, and offers up to date library and information serviceslocally and via internet, as well as premises with room for reading, group work rooms and equipment. The supporting publishing services for the Aalto University School of Science and Technology and assessment of research and publishing of the School are some of the newest duties of the library.

The library takes an active role in national, regional, and international cooperation. In the latter the library and it's representatives are very active in the organizations IFLA (The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) and IATUL (The International Association of Technological University Libraries). The library is responsible for the practical tasks of ETDE, an information exchange agreement of IEA (International Energy Agency) and it documents Finnish publications of energy research and technology in the ETDEWEB World Energy Base -database.

Statistics

Statistics of the library are available in the supplements of its annual reports and in the annual statistics of Finnish scientific libraries.

Developing the activities

The library develops and renews its activities through various enterprises and projects. In addition to its own development projects this work is done by taking part in various domestic and external enterprises of library and information services.

A part of developing the activities is the quality work of the School of Science and Technology in which the library partakes.

Feedback from the customers and their needs are an important part of controlling and developing the activities. The library gets feedback with regular customer surveys, via the feedback form on the web pages, and in connection with customer service.
